An Anniversary Classic

When I first moved to Troy one year ago Lacey made me the cutest basket filled with household goodies. In this goodie basket were two square pink plates with big black flowers, two matching square bowls, and two clear cups with matching pink flowers. There was also a box of Zataran's Jambalaya. For one anniversary I set up a candle-lit dinner that consisted of the Jambalaya with a frozen loaf of Italian bread and served it on the pink dinnerware.

Although the pink dinnerware is missing, and it is a frozen French loaf instead of Italian, I re-created this dinner last Saturday to celebrate Valentine's Day and our 2 year anniversary from the day before.

Straight from Granny's Cookbook

The other day I went to visit with Granjackie and got through some of my great-grandmother's (Granny) cookbooks. I found this recipe in a binder that she had taken placed clippings from magazines and newspapers in. It reminds me of how I am doing my cookbook, only it is more of a scrapbook style. This recipe is basically like a Monkey Bread, only I have forgotten what the title in the clipping was. It is an easy and yummy breakfast, or would be fabulous in the afternoon with a cup of coffee!

Battle of the Pound Cakes

I have been trying and trying to make a low-fat pound cake. And it FINALLY happened after multiple attempts. Now, don't get me wrong, it's still got lots of calories and has real sugar, but we'll take it one step at the time!
I made a pound cake recipe I got from Anita Givens which is absolety "real" and absolutely wonderful!

The following day I followed her recipe and made a few tweaks of my own to create my baby- a FAT FREE pound cake! It's form was beautiful-although it cracked slightly on the top, but it made a flower shape which was ultimately pretty. It was very light and fluffy, a lot different from the "real" pound cake. Over all the opinions of those who tasted it said that it was good for a low-fat cake. :) I'm a happy girl!
